The roof assessment and system options felt easy to understand. Clear choices for different budgets make planning much simpler.
I had plenty of questions about solar. A simple explanation of the process makes it easier to decide what could work for our home.
A clear quote covering panels, the inverter and installation is exactly the kind of detail I look for when comparing solar options.
A plan that considers our roof and electricity needs is a great starting point. Practical guidance without confusing technical terms really helps.
Understanding the subsidy paperwork and net metering steps upfront makes the whole planning process feel more manageable.
Patient answers and a clear explanation of every step are what I would want at the start of our rooftop solar journey.
From your roof to the paperwork, here’s what people usually want to know before going solar.
Have a question about your own roof?
Talk to Our TeamEligible individual residential consumers can receive ₹30,000 central + ₹15,000 UP subsidy for 1 kW, ₹60,000 + ₹30,000 for 2 kW, or up to ₹78,000 + ₹30,000 for 3 kW and above. Final eligibility and payment depend on the applicable scheme, DISCOM approval and available state support. Housing society common facilities follow separate rules.
A site survey checks usable roof area, shade, structural condition, orientation and access. As a planning guide, allow around 10 square metres per kW; your final layout may need more space for walkways and mounting. RCC and suitable metal roofs can both be assessed.
The subsidy is received after installation, net-meter commissioning, DISCOM inspection and approval of the completed claim. Processing times vary by agency, bank details and application completeness. There is no guaranteed payment date; track your application on the national portal.
Panels can generate in diffused daylight, but output falls in cloud, fog, shade and short winter days. Estimates use an average, not a daily guarantee. A standard on-grid inverter shuts down during a grid outage for safety; backup requires a suitable hybrid system and battery.
A bidirectional meter records the electricity you import from the grid and export from your solar system. Your DISCOM applies credits or settlement under its current rules. Exported units do not necessarily receive the same cash rate as your retail electricity tariff.
Banks may offer rooftop solar finance, subject to eligibility, credit assessment and their current terms. Discuss current options directly with your bank; the solar planner estimates system size and cost rather than loan repayments. Ask the bank about processing fees, prepayment terms and subsidy treatment.
Keep panels clean using the installer’s recommended method, monitor generation and arrange periodic electrical, mounting and inverter checks. Cleaning frequency depends on dust and site access. Ask for written AMC scope and pricing; module warranties do not cover every system component.
A brand name alone does not prove DCR eligibility. Adani, Tata, Waaree and other brands have different module options. PM Surya Ghar requires eligible domestically manufactured modules using domestic cells and applicable ALMM compliance. Request the exact model, DCR declaration, serial records and current eligibility before purchase.
